Weekly Bicycle Outing

The whole month of May has been Bicycle Awareness Month.  As a result, I've been trying to ride as often as possible to make the sport of bicycling visible.  Lately I've been riding through the neighborhoods for safety reasons, but I have also discovered a few historical landmarks while doing so.  First I rode along Elizabeth Boulevard in the Ryan Place neighborhood.  First on my list of discoveries was a historical marker informing me this particular stretch of road was once a trail for cattle herders, much like the Chisholm Trail.  Really?  Hmm!  Then I rode over to Travis Avenue Baptist Church in order to read their historical markers.  That particular church, in one way, shape, or form, has been around for well over one hundred years.  The church was founded under a different name and was located "many miles" from the city limits of Fort Worth.  This must have been way back in the day when the town was first established.  I thought the information I learned was very interesting.  As a last stop before heading back to the apartment I visited the neighborhood park located along Berry Street, sort of across the street a little bit from Travis Avenue Baptist Church.  Overall, this evening's ride was well-worth the time investment.  Oh, I almost forgot, I also spotted several homes who had placed cut down trees on their curbs.  You know what this means...firewood!  Yes, I fetched for my vehicle to load up the free firewood.  The people from whom I retrieved the oak logs were much obliged to have me relieve them of such an eyesore.  Now I have partially restored my depleting reserves of firewood.  God does provide and bless.  See what happens when you go bicycling riding.  You never know what you might find.
