America Recycles Day

Yep, you guessed it, today is America Recycles Day.  As a person who is avid about recycling, this holiday of sorts really struck a chord and resonated with me.  Today's Trivia email in my inbox had a lot of interesting information concerning different and odd items created from human and material waste.  For example, sheep fecal matter can be turned in to the placard used for air fresheners.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Thankfully, however, the odor emitted is not of fecal matter.  Another example is of the water consumed on the international space station.  Such items as shower run-off, sweat, and urine are all used for recycled water.  Another gross example which takes a lot of psychological will-power to overlook if one wants to partake of such items.  On a daily basis I try to remain conscious of what I can and cannot recycle.  Even when I pick up litter in and around the apartment complex and neighborhood I live in, I try as best I can to separate the garbage for recycling purposes.  Clothing is another great recycling item.  According to the above mentioned website, clothing can either be donated or used for insulation in houses and etc.  China took over one million compact discs, ground them up, and used the byproduct for paving their roads.  I could go on and on about the interesting facts I discovered, but for the sake of time and length of this entry I encourage you to perform research of your own.  Please catch the recycling bug as each person plays his or her part in acting as a steward of our resources and the earth we live on.  Maybe recycling will become a part of your every day lifestyle.  Who knows?  Happy Recycling Day!
