National Beer Day

Yep, you got it...today is National Beer Day.  Don't worry, I haven't violated my ten years of sobriety and abstinence from alcohol; however, I do still love to talk about beer.  Mainly what I miss are all the good times I had with friends over a cold pint of brew.  This includes all the people I met, friends I made, and the adventures we experienced while imbibing a little liquid courage.  It's amazing what a person will do when a few inhibitions are removed and judgement is slightly impaired.  Just ask me!  Yes, I romance the good ol' times, all the while trying to desperately forget the bad times.  I have a few of those stories to share as well.  My all-time favorite beer was Killian's Irish Lager, or, as I lovingly call it, Killian's Red.  This was the only non-Germanic beer I fervently drank.  A few of my other favorite beers include: St. Pauli Girl Dark, Heineken Dark, Paulaner Hefeweizen, Samuel Adams, and so many more I don't have space to mention.  To properly celebrate the holiday, I should throw back a cold one, but I'm not going to do that.  Instead, I will simply reminisce about all the memories from days gone by.  Drink one for me and enjoy the holiday.

Dear Diary...

A diary...journaling...keeping a log of one's life...all can essentially get boiled down to the same purpose.  With the act of keeping the events of one's life on paper, certainly the author should have some loose idea concerning or goal toward which the narrative is directed.  As I journal, most of the time the few scant lines are simply a chronology of the day's events.  Then I'll hearken back to the real reason behind why I started a journal all those years ago.  At such point, I'll begin to weave my heart and soul, the emotional coloring, in to the events unfolding on the page, as if happening for the first time.  What do I find, as a result?  Not mere lifeless words on a page, but a real, living and breathing, human being who rejoices for victories won, is hurt by carelessly flung, however unintentional, arrows which pierce my soul, and the secrets of my heart which no one else knows.  May the content I keep become enough evidence in a court of la...

Bucket List

The term bucket list has been around for quite some time, and I have slowly warmed to the concept.  It is essentially a list of experiences or achievements a person desires to accomplish during their lifetime.  My personal list has changed drastically over the years to include fewer "pipe dreams" and replaced with more realistic goals.  Due to age and the never-improving finances, I have stopped seeking advanced degrees and the childhood dream of a career in historical archeaology.  (Please don't think this is giving up on life.  Sometimes I simply need to quit beating my head against the wall of reality.)  As I shift my goals, I continue to gain personal richness through other measures.  This year alone, I have been able to mark off quite a few items on my personal bucket list.  In March I was able to visit Cedar Hill State Park for the very first time.  Since the initial visit, I have become a frequent visitor.  From the First Day of ...
