National Do Something Nice Day

By accident I discovered today was National Do Something Nice Day.  This is a day not to be confused with another day in spring for Random Acts of Kindness.  Because of my temperament and various character defects, I am not prone to acting out in kindness.  Rather, I tend to act very selfishly looking out for number one, which is me.  No big surprise there.  To most people my acts of kindness may seem too subtle or very trivial, but I did make an effort to not act gruff or rough around the edges with the people I came in contact with today.  Something I always try to remember is to treat everyone with courtesy, dignity, and honor, for I do not know what secret battle he or she may be waging in their heart and soul.  Of course I need to strive toward this type of behavior each and every day, not simply on days like today when the national focus is on performing nice acts.  First I spoke with several people who really wanted to interact socially when I really wasn't in the mood to talk.  For those who know me well, this is no small feat.  It's not that these people had a problem they were looking to solve.  They simply wanted the human touch of conversation.  Second, I facilitated the men's group meeting this evening.  This wasn't as much of an effort to put forth, but I was definitely in a quiet and reserved mood.  Again, these acts may not amount to much in the short-term, but the long-term dividends may be huge spiritually.  What did you do nice today?  What will you do tomorrow?
