Jack's Throwback (Dallas, Texas)


Jack FM 100.3 held its annual Jack's Throwback celebration last night at the South Side Ballroom in Dallas, Texas.  Many cover bands were present representing such acts as Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, and AC/DC.  My two best friends traveled to Dallas in order to attend the event with yours truly.  We had a blast and stayed nearly the whole time.  Considering the size of the crowd in attendance, I expected to experience a nightmare in trying to leave.  So we collectively decided to duck out about 45 minutes early to avoid any sort of car logjam at the traffic lights and intersections.  By the time I arrived back at the apartment well past midnight, I was exhausted, but it was worth my time and effort.  Today (Sunday) we all met again for a time of fellowship over food and then coffee.  I had never eaten Korean B-B-Q, but my friends convinced me to try it.  It was good.  Our day was capped off by coffee and hot tea at a nearby coffee shop called Java Me Up.  Overall it was a great, fun-filled, activity packed weekend.  I am so glad I went.  Sometimes I flake out on stuff like that only so my status quo routine doesn't get interrupted.  Sad, isn't it?  Even though "Jack" has been hosting these Throwbacks for quite some time, this is the first of many events my friends and I will attend.  Next year will be awesome as well.

Party on the Porch (Amon Carter Museum)

On Saturday, September 30th, I attended the annual Party on the Porch sponsored and hosted by the Amon Carter Museum.  I attended this function about twelve years ago with a friend and his family.  For whatever reason, the festivities fell off my radar till I saw a banner for it a few weeks prior.  Deciding it would be good for me to get out, even if it was alone, I requested a ticket and downloaded it to my phone.  The best part of the shin-dig was it's free of charge!  Yes, you read that correctly.  Both Party on the Porch and the Museum itself are funded by a perpetual trust established upon the death of Amon Carter himself.  (Take that, you other museums who charge an entrance fee!  Because of the lack of admission, I am able to frequent the art gallery as often as I can.)  Free parking for the event was available across the street at the surface lots of the Health Science Center.  (Another plus to showing up for the event.)  There were several people managing the entryway.  On

Reprieve from the War Front

He is Risen...

...He is risen indeed!  This is the typical New Testament greeting from one brother or sister to another.  What impact does that statement have in my life?  Does it really make a difference?  It all boils down to belief, and more than an intellectual assent but a deep-seated belief found in the inner recesses of my heart and soul.  I can claim a born-again experience, but is it evident in daily living?  Thoughts, behaviors, and actions will quickly tell how true this may be in my life.  As I see how life has turned out, am I still trying to wrest my will out of the Hands of God instead of allowing Him to have unfettered access to all that I am?  As you can see, there may be more questions than answers; however, that is where faith comes in.  Many of the heroes of the faith couldn't see the larger picture of the puzzle as the pieces were getting put into place during the course of life.  Soren Kierkegaard said it best, "Life is best understood backward but must be lived forward
