Over the Rainbow and Under the Pass

Starting next week, my schedule is changing at work.  Along with the change, I will no longer have the usual complement of four-day weekends off to enjoy unto myself.  As a result, this morning I felt burdened to maximize the time for greater gain.  The only activity that was formally scheduled, was a time of fellowship with an acquaintance over a cigar at two o'clock in the afternoon.  Unfortunately, the activity was cancelled due to a family issue that came up for the other party.  That was fine with me as I had already been out and about riding my bicycle through the neighborhoods surrounding where I live.  Again, with no destination in mind, I headed in a direction I haven't been for quite some time.  What I re-discovered was a community garden associated with the local church it was located behind.  The garden didn't contain the food-producing kind of plants, but of the kind offering shade and conducive to serenity and reflection.  While walking around taking pictures of this Garden of Eden, I ran in to a lady who attends the church that owns the property.  She was excited to find someone interested in the garden, and we discussed the people initially responsible for creating and maintaining the area.  Learning these people are now advanced in age and no longer as physically capable of tending to the obligations, she mentioned needing volunteers.  I didn't immediately jump at the suggestion, but I have been thinking of the opportunity.  Maybe this is something that could provide some service as the need has already presented itself.  We'll see.  In the meantime, I would love to see people visit this place and take in all that is has to offer.  The garden provides a great haven of rest from the swirling demands of life.  From personal experience, we all benefit from time away to re-center ourselves, getting grounded once again in the Will of God for our lives.  Enjoy!
