National Trails Day

One of the main attractions, and the most fun to undertake, at a park are the hiking/biking trails.  Granted, some are better than others, but all are equally worthy of trodding.  As I think back to some of the state parks I've visited, I must confess the two that bring the fondest memories are Mission Tejas State Park in East Texas and Glorieta, New Mexico.  The hidden gems found along the way are true treasures to behold.  "Ghost Town" in Glorieta was unique in that is must have been an old mining town at some point in history.  The last remaining dwelling of an era gone by was in shambles, nothing but rotting lumber piled in disarray.  Then there were the abandoned, rustic out old cars left to weather the elements till they too become non-existent.  At Mission Tejas, the trail carved out for the campers included a stop at the CCC "baths".  One for lathering up, another for rinsing, and the last for who knows what.  (Yes, there were three components to the interconnected baths.)  A little closer to home, Fort Worth offers the Trinity Trails that stretch for miles upon miles along the Trinity River, from whence it receives the name.  I've only ridden my bicycle on the portions close to the apartment.  A longer trek would require planning and lots of water loaded in the backpack.  Wherever one resides, I'm sure the area has trails one could utilize for a day of enjoyment and exercise.  Take advantage of what nature has to offer.  There may come a time when a person doesn't have the physical capability to make use of these amenities.  Until then, don't let them suffer neglect from non-use.  Enjoy what God has created with the bodies He has made for doing so.  Happy National Trails Day!
