Grapevine, Texas

Today is the last of three days off from work, and I wanted to capitalize on the free time.  Getting to hang out with my friend last night really rejuvenated me.  As a result, I made a short trip to Grapevine, Texas.  It is only about half an hour drive from the apartment, depending on how much traffic one experiences on the roadways.  Since it is Memorial Day, I was surprised at how light traffic was.  First, I made a stop at Buon Giorno on Hall-Johnson Road.  This is the sister store to the one I frequent here in Fort Worth; however, the experience was vastly different.  The place was packed, but I still found a place to sit rather easily.  (Unlike the other store whose tables fill up even at the least amount of business.  This isn't a complaint, but rather an astute observation.)  Another difference was the ambiance.  Maybe it was simply because this was my first time visiting and I am so accustomed to the other location.  Either way, I very much enjoyed the excursion.  Once finished with the medium coffee I purchased, I was quickly on my way to South Main Street in Grapevine.  Another surprise were the various parking lots dedicated for public use.  I was fully expecting to have to pay for parking.  In the back of my mind, I was brainstorming on how I could park at some distance away in order to escape any parking meters.  Of course this would have made for a hike to the points of interest in the town's historical district.  However, due to the free public parking, I was already liking what I was experiencing.  Apparently I have been missing out on the sites and sounds of this quaint little town nestled in the D/FW Metroplex.  I didn't venture very far off the beaten path, sticking primarily to the thoroughfare of Main Street.  For lunch I ate at Cotton Patch, eating the lunch special of Chicken Fried Chicken.  Rather conveniently, there was a cigar shop located on the opposing corner of the intersection.  Needless to mention, I stopped in, purchased two cigars, and smoked one there.  Once back on the move, I headed back up the street toward where I was parked.  In the three plus hours I spent away from Fort Worth, I snapped over two hundred pictures.  Overall, I had a great time and was glad I didn't waste the day away in nothingness at the apartment.  If you ever get the chance to visit Grapevine, take full advantage of the opportunity to do so.  You will not regret the time spent in Hometown U.S.A.
