National Fun Day
This morning I had to take my vehicle in to the mechanic for an issue regarding a fluid leak in the engine. The resulting smoke the leak produced gave cause for concern of a major repair and huge mechanic's bill. To not let this dampen my good mood nor to detract from National Fun Day, I decided to grab the bicycle for another one of my city-wide adventures. First, I sat at Buon Giorno, my favorite Fort Worth coffee shop, for a time of reading and relaxation. I was able to start and finish reading March's issue of Texas Highways magazine. In addition, the privilege to make the acquaintance of a new staff member, the sister of a departing employee who will now work for an airline as an attendant, was an opportunity I didn't want to pass up. She seems very personable and will become a great asset to the shop and its environment. After a cup of coffee and one cup of Earl Grey hot tea, my favorite drink of choice at "BG", I headed for the apartment; however, the return trip was sidetracked by an excursion with Saint Patrick's Cathedral. For as many years as I worked downtown, I never took the time to read the historical markers or check out the structures of the parish. As usual, I was fascinated by the history and character of the church. Not only does the church have a lot to offer Fort Worth as a whole, historically speaking, but the architectural beauty it offers to downtown is amazing. The church stands as a gateway to the southern portal of downtown, coming in from Jennings Street. I can tell a lot of money and planning, along with the utmost scrutiny in design and detail, were placed in the effort of construction. If you consider Saint Patrick's Cathedral your home parish, I envy you. The church is beautiful, as I'm sure the same could be said of the interior. Maybe next time I will be able to check out the sanctuary and even attend Mass. I wonder if Martin Luther would turn in his grave if this Protestant ever did so.
