April Fool's Day
What makes a fool? Is it making ignorant and irrational decisions? Is it rushing headlong into conversation or a situation without apprising oneself of what is going on? Quite a few people treat me like a fool (idiot) because I do not spout off everything I know in a braggart-ly way. To the contrary, I believe doing so makes one a fool. Albert Einstein says doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results is the epitome of insanity. In this case, insanity and foolishness exemplify the same characteristics. Since I aspire to a higher level of thinking, and an other-worldly level of wisdom and intelligence, I found a few verses in the Bible speaking in regard to foolishness. First is Psalm 14:1-2, it states, "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good." Second is Luke 12:20-21 which states, "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself? This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." A fool is someone who does not have any regard for anyone but himself. This same person will attempt to defy God Almighty thinking he can thwart His omnipotent Will. A fool's sights are only on this temporary ethereal realm, a spiritual eternity does not exist in his or her mind. There is no planning for the future other than for himself. The old adage may apply to this type of person, "Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we may die." (I Corinthians 15:32) I venture to speculate every fool has his day other than on April 1st, April Fool's Day. Whereas those showing prudence, wisdom, and a inclination toward the things of God are mocked and ridiculed. If you're not sure whether or not you are a fool, heed this sage advice, "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." (Mark Twain)
