I Can Get Used To This

For the second week in a row, I have had two back-to-back days off.  Really, it's two-and-a-half days off if you count the afternoon of the day before.  (I get off early enough to count the remaining part of the morning and rest of the afternoon as a half-day off.)  I'm not sure if this trend of more time off will continue, but I sure can grow accustomed to this.  The time off has been nice, as one day off per week really wasn't enough to mentally and emotionally unhinge from the job.  Yesterday I felt like going for a drive.  For those who know me well enough, this can be a recipe for daring adventure.  In years gone by, finding the urge to "go for a drive" usually found yours truly hours and hundreds of miles away from the origination point.  In two instances, I found myself in a completely different state of the union other than Texas.  (Santa Fe, New Mexico and Salt Lake City, Utah, were the spontaneous destinations.)  In the end, I travelled to Weatherford in order to hang out at Tobacco Lane on the Square.  Yes, this is the sister store to the one I formerly worked at in downtown Fort Worth.  Unfortunately, I missed seeing both of the owners, but the proprietor on duty was a joy to hang out with.  I also met another regular patron by the name of Charles.  He and I had a sweet time of fellowship before both of us headed on our divergent paths.  (In honor of Robert Frost.)  Once back in the truck, I drove the half-hour to Granbury.  Of course I've been to Granbury before, but this time I took a route unfamiliar to me.  It was a beautiful scenic drive in the back-country of Texas.  Most of the time I prefer straight interstate or highway, but today I readily enjoyed the scenery of the road less travelled, at least by me.  Having arrived in Granbury, I had no real intended purpose other than to visit the Kroger's store I regularly serviced while employed by TNG.  Everyone was glad to see me and asked where I had been.  This is what I miss about this friendly country town.  When the time was right, I headed back to Fort Worth and to the apartment.
Today (Thursday), I opted to stay in town in order to take care of a few projects that have been hanging over my head.  Most of my life, either time or money have been the issue with pursuing hobbies, projects, or what have you.  Since I can't play and travel on every day off I get, that costs money, I disciplined myself to stay at home.  First on the list was to continue painting the trim in the apartment.  This was something I began almost a year ago but neglected since working at the bagel shop.  Mostly I applied a second coat of paint to existing work, but I did manage to get two new areas painted.  Once satisfied with the time invested in the project, I got cleaned up for a trip to Home Depot.  I was really after a plant and potting soil, but I also picked up a few other items for around the apartment.  Before trotting off back home, I treated myself to lunch at Twin Peaks.  (The current competitor of Hooter's.)  Out of all the times I've been here, I must say this is the first time I've ever been disappointed.  The food wasn't near the quality it usually is, and the ambiance was rather lacking.  Usually the place is electric with excitement.  Anyway, I called it a day and promptly drove back to the apartment.  Now I need to figure out what to do with the second day off tomorrow.  Any suggestions?  Until then, enjoy life!
