Singles' Day

Yesterday was Singles' Day, and I wanted to take advantage of the spotlight to voice my contentment in and appreciation for the calling God has placed on many of us who consider ourselves followers of Jesus Christ.  The Apostle Paul speaks concerning marriage and the single life in the book of 1 Corinthians 7.  (I'll post that particular chapter in the following entry.)  Singleness is very much a calling in life as it frees me to focus on obedient service unto the Lord.  A person with a family, for whatever reason in which he or she became married, has divided attention as his family must take a priority from time to time.  Both lifestyles, singleness and marriage, have their advantages and disadvantages, but I am very content in where I am on this particular subject.  However, for grins and giggles, I did join eHarmony for three months only to see what the dating scene was like.  (The rate was ten dollars a month for those three months, so I don't feel as if I was a poor steward of God's money.)  Since I am old-fashioned in how I would prefer to meet a future wife, the online dating platform was difficult to navigate, and tweaking my profile to exactly what I wanted took quite a while.  In the end, I was disappointed only by how pretentious people were.  Most were posturing for the best possible angle in the event that good-looking guy or hot girl perusing the profiles might "send them a smile".  Did I meet with any success?  Well, success in that I thoroughly entertained and amused myself by the endeavor.  I had no desire to meet "the one", but I did have more than a few conversations with solid people who, given enough time and conversation, could have become compatible in marriage.  Now that my eHarmony subscription has expired, I can definitely say, without a doubt, I will never do that again.  I'll stick with the old-fashioned way of meeting that someone special.  (No hurry on my part.)  If you're like I am, enjoy, appreciate, and thank God for your singleness.  On the other side of the coin, trust God for your future mate.  He knows best.
