Get Out of Here!



Seems to me I am making a regular habit of travelling to Dallas.  This previous Saturday I had made arrangements to meet a friend for an hour or two of fellowship.  Not wanting anything to go to waste, I made a day of it after bidding farewell to my friend.  With smartphone in hand, Siri gave me directions to the Historic West End.  To honestly confess, I have visited this area a few times before; however, I always seem to find some new twist during my excursion.  It is in the Historic West End that Dealey Plaza, the place where John F. Kennedy was assassinated, is located.  People are continually mesmerized by the allure of the "who-dunnit" mystery.  (If Lee Harvey Oswald had anything to do with it, he was only a small figure in the greater cover-up and conspiracy.)  After walking around snapping numerous pictures, I found another memorial to JFK.  Satisfied with my adventure, I grabbed lunch at The Spaghetti Warehouse.  Fond memories soon began to flood my consciousness.  Growing up in Austin, my parents would treat me to a Spaghetti Warehouse dinner for my birthday.  That was one of the highlights to growing another year older.  Once finished with dinner, I made my way back to Fort Worth.  The rest of the day was spent recouping from my fun-filled day.  If you are ever in the D/FW Metroplex, check out Dallas and all it has to offer.

Year in Review (2017)

Wow, are we really staring down another year already?!  Seems like the older I get, the faster the sands of time move through the hour-glass.  In addition, older age has brought a greater appreciation to the status quo of routine.  Especially now that I hold down two jobs, I eat, sleep, and work, with little personal time for the few pleasures I enjoy out of life.  Of course I don't intend to sound so glum...life isn't as gloom-and-doom as I make it sound like.  During the course of 2017, I was able to visit family on several occasions, including a surprise visit by family as they travelled to Fort Worth on a weekend in August.  Another blessing is the securing of a second form of employment.  In the year and few months the cigar shop has been closed, I simply could not financially sustain myself on the one income working for TNG.  Severely under-employed, I kept an eye open for a second job.  After a few false hopes, I finally found a job as...

The Nightmare is Over

A little over a week ago, I finished working at Ole Grapevine Cigar & Tobacco Shop for a second tour of duty.  Once again, I found this particular place of employment extremely toxic and dysfunctional.  With the exception of one other staff member, the crew at the shop were too chummy with one another in very unhealthy ways.  Similar to the first experience, I was micro-managed and isolated from feeling a part of the "family", as the manager liked to call the company.  I never felt included...only taken advantage of and then made to feel inferior and worthless.  The customer base wasn't too much better than the work environment.  In some ways, the customers were worse...a bunch of entitled, rich people who wanted their way while everyone else be damned.  Spoiled-rotten brats!  The manager summarily decided, without even consulting me, that I would be moved to an "on call" position.  Since I'm not naive, I realize this means I'll never wor...

Happy Arbor Day!

What a wonderful way to follow-up Earth Day by having Arbor Day.  The history behind both holidays are fascinating, but too much to include in this blog.  (I would have to write page upon page to adequately discuss the histories of both.)  In a nutshell, the holiday promotes the planting of trees to further strengthen the Earth's ecosystem, as well as to bolster Mother Nature's hold against the negative industrial and technological advances in the present day and age.  As stewards of this wonderful planet we live on, I am in full agreement concerning our roles and responsibilities.  However, I would like to press further into the heart of the issue for what I believe is really at stake.  Planting a tree is an investment which pays off in the long-term.  So is investing in spiritual concepts and higher-level principles.  There is always more than meets the eye, other occurrences than what we can perceive through our five sense.  Similar to nee...
