Eternal Perspective

On Thursday, October 30th, I set out for Mission Tejas State Park for a four day reprieve from the daily grind of what this secular world calls reality.  Each and every time I retreat into God's creation, I come away completely re-centered and grounded once again in the pursuits of substance.  As much as I try to meditate on a daily basis, it is such times as this which make a huge impact on my life.  The world calls the daily rat-race of material accumulation reality, but I ardently believe true reality exists only in the view of eternity.  Only in this eternal perspective and reality will such matters as personal investment in other people become worthwhile.  In addition, my eight years of sobriety from alcohol can find true meaning in the belief of a Kingdom of God and eternal life beyond the grave.  If I only have an earthly perspective devoid of a belief in God and eternity, then my sobriety and investment in other people are a complete waste of time.  I might as well become very self-centered, get drunk, and enjoy my hell on earth.  For those who believe in God, this earthly life is the closest to hell they will ever come.  For those who don't believe in God, this earthly life is the closest to heaven they will ever come.  To top off my time away pursuing God in His creation, I visited a friend who is incarcerated on the Ellis Unit in Huntsville, Texas.  These type of actions and investment are pursuits of substance which will pay off in eternity.  Until my next trip into the seclusion of God's creation, may I earnestly seek and catch glimpses of Him.
