Not Skipping a Beat!
Wow, is it almost March already?! This year is taking off like never before. As I grow older, as most people can probably attest, time flies by at ever increasing speeds. And the adventures don't let up one bit. Seems like yesterday I was taking a First Day Hike at Cleburne State Park in Cleburne, Texas. Then various holidays, including Valentine's Day and the beginning of the forty days of Lent leading up to Easter, leaves me trying to catch my breath. Looking for the break pedal to moderate the passage of time, but no such luck. Unfortunately, life gives a mix of bad along with the good and throws it my way in order to keep life interesting. Last Saturday I was "let go" at my job working at Tx Smoke (cigar shop). The whole ordeal blindsided me from out in left field. Didn't realize there were any issues as I was the only staff member alongside the owner/manager. Whatever the perceived issues were, I must give credit to the proprietor's opinion and let him have his grievance. To be honest, I was relieved at the dismissal and am currently enjoying my time away from the now-realized toxic environment. I simply shook his hand, sincerely wished him the best of success, and made way for the door. Oh well! This first week of freedom has been spent tying up a bunch of loose ends. My sister and I met for breakfast, and then an acquaintance and I spent an hour of fellowship over a cup of coffee at Buon Giorno, my favorite coffee shop in downtown. On Monday, I'm debating on making a day trip to Lake Whiteney State Park. The destination is a little over an hour's drive for Fort Worth, and I am excited about the prospect of getting out of town and into nature for a few hours. The best news about getting fired is that I can now attend church once again. I'm still shopping for a new spiritual home after leaving my former church of 30 years early last year. North Fort Worth Baptist Church was good, but I need something a little closer. Travis Avenue Baptist Church fits that need in that it is about a mile from the apartment. Tomorrow I am planning on attending the first of two membership classes. Hopefully, I can hear God's direction concerning where to plant myself in spiritual community. During the last week in March, I am planning a multi-city trip, which includes spending a few days with dear ol' Mom. Two days will be set aside for just me and her. Then I have a few matters of personal business to attend to while I'm in her neck of the woods. I won't bore you with all the details or everything I plan to do while exploring; however, I do intend to try out a few new experiences. In spite of the employment setback, the future is bright. I'm excited about what God has in store for me as I related to Him in obedience to His Will. How is your 2026 coming along? Don't let the bumps in the road and other obstacles get you frustrated. Simply take them in stride as a blip on the radar and don't skip a beat. Don't let anyone steal your joy!
